Family Law: Fatherhood class

April 8, 2010

Hello everyone,
I’m writing to let you know that there are just a few spaces left in the
next Fatherhood First class. We’re working to finalize the exact start date
and location, but the class will begin the last week in April on either the
27th or 29th. When we have this confirmed, I’ll send out an official press
release. However, spaces are filling up fast and if you have fathers you’d
like to refer, please get in touch with Daryl. His contact information is
below. Here’s the scoop:

Family Planning of Clallam County (FPCC) is happy to announce that it will
be utilizing a new curriculum for its Fatherhood First Classes. FPCC Health
Education Coordinator, Daryl Trowbridge, will be using The Nurturing
Father’s Program, an evidence-based parenting program for “developing
attitudes and skills for male nurturance.” One recent participant stated,
“I was easily able to relate to him (Mr. Trowbridge) and the knowledge he
was trying to impart. Half-way through the class, as I began to implement
the knowledge and lessons I was learning, I saw and felt a marked
improvement in my relationship with my children as well as their behavior at
home and at school.” In many ways, prevention of child abuse and neglect is
best achieved through the promotion of protective factors such as the
involvement of fathers who are willing to examine patterns in family
systems, change those that maladaptive, and relate to their children in ways
that are empathic, encouraging, and consistent. This is the core work of
the “Nurturing Father’s Program.” Because it is a cognitive/behavioral
intervention focused on primarily on men who are fathers, program
effectiveness is not dependent on the age of the child.

The next round of Fatherhood First Classes will begin the last week in
April. This free, weekly class will last 2 ½ hours per session and will
meet for 13 weeks. Space is limited to 12 fathers, but half of those spots
have already been snatched up. So please contact Daryl Trowbridge as soon
as possible to ensure enrollment in this life-changing class. Daryl can be
reached at 452-2954 ext. 21 or 775-5069. You can also email
dtrowbridge@familyplanningofcc.org.
