Kevin Hansen is still doing bankruptcy

Kevin Hansen was looking to make a change last year, but has put that on hold. For now, he and Hugh Haffner are the only (?) Clallam attorneys doing bankrutpcy work. Kevin is with:

Basden & Hansen
916 Georgiana Street
Port Angeles WA 98362

FYI, in the news this week, bankruptcy filings are up for the same period last year. Also, the Washington homestead exemption is now $125,000 (thanks in part to the work of Hugh Haffner with the Washington Legislatature).

Marie Angier

By Michelle Ahrens

The service to celebrate the life of Marie Angier will be held this coming Saturday, August 25, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church. The address for the church is 139 W. 8th St., Port Angeles. I’m sure Tom would appreciate seeing his colleagues there to support him.

Additionally, some of the employees of the AG’s office are trying to put together some funds to erect a memorial bench for Marie in Sequim. The cost for this is $1,000.00. This plan is in the early stages but if you are interested in contributing to this project you should contact Cathy Carlin at the Attorney General’s Office - 457-2711.

9/21 bar lunch: with clerk Barb Christiansen

By Michelle Ahrens

Barb Christensen asked me to get an email out to the bar about getting copies of juror profiles prior to trials. She, apparently, heard that there were some grumblings around the courthouse about lawyers not being able to access juror profiles. This is not true. Previously, there had been an issue with the new software program. That issue has been remedied. The attorney of record on a case may now request copies of the juror profiles for a trial as much as one week in advance of the trial. One copy will be provided at no charge.
If you have any questions about this or any other issues in the Superior Court Clerk’s Office, Barb would like you to know her door is always open. She will also be joining us at our bar lunch on September 21, 2007 to further update us on issues in the Superior Court Clerk’s Office.

Secret Buffet food upgrade?

By Michelle Ahrens

The Secret Garden Buffet has been sold and the new owner was present at our last meeting to discuss the upcoming changes. Apparently, the restaurant will continue to serve food in a buffet style, however, the menu is expected to change significantly and be directed towards providing health food. The new owner mentioned soups, salads and the like. (For all you grumblers about the food as it is — this may be an improvement!!!) Anyway, you’ll want to come to the next meeting if for no other reason than to sample the new cuisine.

Bar Lunch 9/7: CLE on immigration law

By Michelle Ahrens, President

The CCBA will have another CLE on September 7, 2007. Rob Tulloch will be giving a CLE on immigration law. I’ve seen his outline and it should be good! The meeting will be held at the Secret Garden Buffet on the 7th at 12:00 p.m.

Bar Lunch 8-17: CLE by Ken Williams

By Michelle Ahrens, CCBA President

Greetings you who are highly favored!
Yes, it is that time again — the Bar lunch is coming!!! This week we will be having a CLE wherein the Honorable Judge Ken Williams will be sharing his wealth of wisdom and wit on the subject of the local option DOSA. I’m told the court calendar has been adjusted to allow all the attorney’s that would like to, to attend the CLE. Let’s give Judge Williams our support and show up for the meeting! We’ll be meeting Friday, 12:00 p.m. at the Secret Garden Buffet! (Tim Davis and Darrin Hall love that restaurant!)
In other news, it has occurred to me that the judges have not been included in our meetings and our mass emails. I approached them and was told they would “love to be involved”!!! OK….. so I actually sent Judge Williams an inquiry and he sent me back everybody’s email address. Anyway, I have now added the judges to our list so no more judge bashing!!! Welcome to our Clallam County jurists!
By the way, the Committee to advise the judiciary on the Superior court calendar continues to meet. If you have input, please contact the following individuals - me, Cliff Tassie, Mark Baumann, Deb Kelly, Harry Gasnick and Gary Colley.

Bar Lunch CLE 8-17

The next CCBA meeting will be Friday, August 17, 2007. Ken Williams is scheduled to give a CLE on local option DOSA’s.
