Legacy Planning Seminar

September 14, 2011

Please join me for the Legacy Planning Seminar co-sponsored by the Jefferson Community Foundation and Clallam Community Foundation this coming Friday, September 16th from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. For Bar members, especially ones with estate planning practices, this is a great opportunity to learn more about planned gifts by one of the foremost authorities in our State, Bill Zook. This will be an opportunity to learn about charitable remainder trusts, gift annuities and other planned gifts. The WSBA has approved the seminar for two CLE credits, and the cost of the seminar and lunch is only $25.00. The seminar will also be held at the Northwest Maritime Center in Port Townsend which is a really spectacular venue for a seminar.

The Clallam Community Foundation has also co-sponsored this event and is eager for as many Port Angeles and Sequim lawyers to attend as possible. The Clallam Community Foundation (which is a part of United Way) is a great way of reinvesting in our community, and attendees will have an opportunity to learn more about the Community Foundation and other non-profit
organizations in Clallam County.

I really urge as many estate planning attorneys to attend as possible. It should be a fun time to get together and I look forward to seeing as many people there as possible.

Clallam County Bar Association Members:

August 26, 2011

This is an invitation from the Jefferson Community Foundation to attend a 2-hour CLE followed by a light lunch. The Legacy Planning Seminar is in the process of being approved for 2 CLE credits through the Bar Association. The $25.00 cost includes both the CLE credits and the lunch provided at the seminar. The seminar will be held at the Maritime Center in Port Townsend. Bill Zook is a very well respected lawyer specializing in planned giving. This will be a great opportunity to get inexpensive CLE credits and to learn more about the Jefferson Community Foundation and the Clallam Community Foundation. It will also be an opportunity for people to see firsthand the Maritime Center in Port Townsend. This is a really great venue for a CLE. Please encourage everybody to come to the seminar and then enjoy the rest of the afternoon on September 16th in Port Townsend. I look forward to seeing everybody there.

July 20, 2011

IT’S TIME FOR THE CCBA GOLF TOURNAMENT!!!

The 2nd Annual Clallam County Golf Tournament will be held at the Cedars at Dungeness on August 8th, 2011.  A BIG thanks to Will Payne and Rob Onnen for putting the event together again this year.

Tee times will start at 2:00 pm.  It will be a scramble format with holes that have challenges including the longest drive, closest to the pin, longest putt etc.

The greens fee is $38 per golfer, and golf carts are available for $16.

Like last year, we will also have a dinner following the tournament, (starting aroung 6:30pm; prices TBD).  If you can’t make it for the golf, please feel free to come for the dinner.  Spouses, significant others, and friends are also welcome.

Will and Rob are planning another great event this year and they need to have an accurate participant count to start working on pairings….

Angeles Mediation Pro Bono Domestic Violence Mediation Project

June 21, 2011

Announcement:
Angeles Mediation Pro Bono Domestic Violence Mediation Project

In 2011-2012, Mark Baumann, JD, Rachel Hardies, MA, and Angeles Mediation, will be operating a pro bono Domestic Violence Mediation Project to help low income families who have had allegations or a history of domestic violence resolve conflict through mediation. Domestic violence may involve physical and/or emotional abuse, and/or may be perceived as a “high conflict” case. These are difficult cases that require special handling and attention, particularly to both parties needs and safety.

The interdisciplinary DV Mediation Project is an access to justice oriented project, offering people of modest means an alternative to litigation that may also offer a more effective method of managing entrenched conflict patterns. Part of the purpose of the project is to develop and report on effective mediation techniques for domestic violence situations.

The DV Mediation Project encourages attorney and advocate participation and the development of safety plans. Attorneys and advocates interested in participating in the Project may contact Mark Baumann or Nancy Rohde, and are encouraged to attend the Quileute Tribe’s unique DV training opportunity by the Southwest Center for Law and Policy in La Push on June 28 and 29. (This training is free and offers CLE credit. For more information see https://clallamcountybar.com/2011/06/03/842/)

Referrals to the DV Mediation Project will only be accepted from professionals, including lawyers, therapists and advocates. Parties interested in mediation services should ask professionals they are working with for a referral, and/or call Healthy Families for advocate and safety planning services in this or any DV situation. If you are interesting in contributing to the project, as a volunteer mediator, advocate, advisor, counselor, educator, concept developer, or otherwise, please call for more information.
