Bar Lunch

Bar Lunch: 3/7/08

March 5, 2008

There will be no speakers at the upcoming meeting.
Place: Salad Station
Date: March 7, 2008
Time: 12:00 p.m.

At our next meeting, March 21, 2008, Rob Onnen will be presenting the following CLE:
Topic: 1031 Tax Deferred Exchanges and the Farm Bill

We need the following:
1. Volunteers for committee to review the proposed “Legal Technician Rule”. The Board of Governors is requesting comments on a proposed rule to allow non-attorney “technicians” to take on duties currently reserved for practicing attorneys.
2. Volunteers to review scholarship notebooks. The notebooks will be ready for review by March 20. Committee members are needed now to put together this year’s screening criteria.

See you Friday,
Patrick M. Irwin

Bar lunch: CLE US Olympic Committee trademark actions

December 5, 2007

Bar Lunch is this Friday, December 7, 2007 at the Salad Station at 12:00 p.m.

Jacques Dulin will be doing a CLE on Trademarks and the United States Olympic Committee’s assault on local businesses that use the word Olympic in their name. Jacques has been a member of the Patent Bar since 1966 and has been practicing in Sequim since 2004. He also is an active member of the California bar and is on inactive status with the Virginia and Illinois Bar. Cost is $20.00, made out to Pro Bono.

In other news, the soon-to-be Judge S. Brooke Taylor was present at our last meeting and we took the time to give him some feedback on the Superior Court’s proposed schedule. Most of the comments were very positive. If you have further feedback you’ll want to get something to Lindy Clevenger, the Superior Court Administrator as soon as possible. I know the judges will want to have the new schedule in place right after the New Year.

President-elect elections will be at our last meeting of the year on December 21, 2007.

Bar Lunch: 11/2/07, Clerk’s Office subscription policy

October 31, 2007

In the food department, the restaurant will be adding deli sandwiches to their menu.

In the news department, this week, we’ll be discussing the new proposed subscription policy in the Superior Court Clerk’s office. I’ve had a few emails about this so we’ll discuss the issue and try to send some sort of a recommendation back to Barb Christensen. Your input is solicited and appreciated.

9/21 bar lunch: with clerk Barb Christiansen

August 22, 2007

By Michelle Ahrens

Barb Christensen asked me to get an email out to the bar about getting copies of juror profiles prior to trials. She, apparently, heard that there were some grumblings around the courthouse about lawyers not being able to access juror profiles. This is not true. Previously, there had been an issue with the new software program. That issue has been remedied. The attorney of record on a case may now request copies of the juror profiles for a trial as much as one week in advance of the trial. One copy will be provided at no charge.
If you have any questions about this or any other issues in the Superior Court Clerk’s Office, Barb would like you to know her door is always open. She will also be joining us at our bar lunch on September 21, 2007 to further update us on issues in the Superior Court Clerk’s Office.
