LET’S CELEBRATE – LAW DAY – FRIDAY MAY 1, 2015!
The Clallam County-Jefferson County LAW DAY and Pro Bono Lawyers celebration will be held on Friday May 1 at Noon (doors open at 11:30) at Kokopelli’s Grill, 203 E. Front St., Port Angeles. This year’s theme is the Magna Carta – the foundation of the rule of law in the Western World. The program will end promptly at 1:15 p.m. – Superior Court Judges and Commissioners have been invited and have graciously agreed to delay ex parte until 1:15 p.m.
This presentation is not a CLE, but any donations to Clallam-Jefferson County Pro Bono would be greatly appreciated!
Our featured speaker is Senior United States District Court Judge Robert Bryan for the Western District of Washington. An outstanding speaker, Judge Bryan is well known to many Port Angeles lawyers since he frequently acted as a visiting Superior Court Judge when not on the bench in Kitsap County. Judge Bryan is an energetic leader especially in the judiciary having served as a pro tem Supreme Court and Court of Appeals judge. He is a founder and first president of the Puget Sound Inn of Court and one of a relatively few recipients of the Life Time Service Award conferred by the Washington State Bar Association.
At this event, we will honor two Pro Bono Lawyers of the Year and all the other pro bono volunteer lawyers of Clallam and Jefferson Counties.
Lunch will cost $15.00 (including tip and tax), thanks to our generous sponsors who have allowed us to subsidize lunch for the event. Thank you for your support. The menu is a fixed menu, featuring Fish (cod) and Chips, smoked salmon chowder, green salad and coleslaw, bread/rolls, and coffee, tea and water. Please RSVP by responding to this email by no later than 5pm, SUNDAY April 26, 2015; Pro Bono will be charged a minimum of 40 plates regardless of whether 40 people attend. The banquet room can accommodate up to 60 attendees, so let’s fill the room for Judge Bryan and our Pro Bono Lawyers.
Lunch tickets may be purchased by contacting Shauna Rogers at Pro Bono at 360.504.2422 or [email protected] or at the door.
We thank our Sponsors who are:
Platt Irwin; Will Payne; Johnson, Rutz & Tassie; McMenamin & McMenamin; Derek Medina; Carol Mortensen; Greenaway, Gay & Tulloch; J. Richard Manning – Seattle Northwest Mediator & Arbitrator Services.
The Port Angeles Regional Chamber of Commerce graciously loaned us a portable PA system.
Thank you all for your support, see you on LAW DAY!
Please mark your calendars for our upcoming event – Mythbusting I-594 presented by Will Payne and Derek Medina, 12-1pm at the Skills Center.
As you may be aware, we left the Skills Center toward the end of 2014 because they were unable to accommodate preparing lunch during the noon hour, and that has not changed. We briefly had our lunches at the Bushwhacker, but I recently learned that the Bushwhacker will be re-opening for lunch, which would make it difficult to hear presenters.
After some research and discussion, I made the decision to return to the Skills Center, at least on a temporary basis. ***PLEASE NOTE that the Skills Center will not be providing lunch. A member has graciously decided to donate lunch for the day, but we need to provide a headcount. If you plan to attend, please respond to this email.
I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, however, it appears we have limited options at this point. Thank you for your patience.
Bar lunch shall reconvene on January 16, 2015.
